REMOVE WRITE PROTECTION FROM SD CARD/USB DEVICE

If you try to write or copy items to your sd card/pendrive, it shows "THE SD CARD/USB DRIVE  IS WRITE PROTECTED" or "WINDOWS CANNOT FORMAT THIS DRIVE" or sometimes it didn't even recognise in system or phone. To access your device, you need to remove write protection from it . To do so, follow the steps.

1.Lock

The adapter you use to read your sd card have a lock switch on any one side of it. Like in picture push it upwards to remove the write protection. In some adapters the lock is downwards. So try the both way.Try using your sd card with some other sd adapters.
Some pen drives also have lock, so check it out.

2.Check "Read only" box

Place your sd/usb in your system and right click on it select properties and check the box with read only. If that is selected, remove the selection and try.

3.Using regedit

Place your sd/usb in system and then go to registry like this.
Start=> run(start+R in win8) and type  “regedi. Then from top left menu press "file" and then "export". In the box name the file as "SNDK.reg" and set the export range to all and save.
Then select “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”  and  expand “System”. From there find
“Current Control Set” and click  “Control”.
Then check whether there is a key named “Storage Device Policies”. If it is , then click on it. In the right side of the registry window, select and right click on the "default" and then select "modify" and enter the value as zero in 'value data' box and click ok.

But, if you cannot find the key named “Storage Device Policies”, you need  to create one. For this right click on “Control” to create a new key and name it as “Storage Device Policies”. Then double click on this  new key and do same mentioned above.

4 Using cmd command

1. Start > Run(Start+R in win8) >type  cmd press enter
2. type "diskpart" and press enter.
3. Then type "list volume" and press enter. Now  all your connected drives will list there. Note the volume number of the sd card which has to remove write protection.
4. And then type "select volume x"  and enter. Where "x" means the volume number of your drive. After selecting volume
5. Type "attributes disk clear readonly". Doing so will remove the write protection of your sd card.

Run cmd command administrator privileges if you see an “access is denied” message.
To do that, right-click on the shortcut and choose Run as administrator. In Windows 8, simply choose Command prompt (admin)

If the above method don,t work, try adding this too.
Proceed till the last step in above method. Then type "create partition primary" then enter and type
"format fs=fat32" and enter and type "exit" and enter

There is one more methode to format which works on cmd
Run cmd command as above and type the following command on the command prompt replacing X with the drive letter of your pen drive. "CHKDSK X: /F"

5.Format sd through device manager

Place your sd/usb in system and select computer and right-click on it and  select manager( select explorer and  select the device manager in win8.)
Then select  "Disk Management" from the storage list on the left pane. Select and Right-click your sd/usb  and select Format. Press "OK" to keep default values and confirm your selection by clicking on yes.

 6.Format sd card using tools.

The sd card can be formatted using tools available on market such as "sd formatter",
"HP USB Disk storage formatter" which can format the sd card which windows cannot format.
 Download HP usb storage formatter

7.Change file format

You cannot do any operation on your storage device if the file format changed to RAW.
